Youth Equine Assisted Learning Program
Imagine what the future would hold if we prepared our youth with the essential skills for life? Skills development - preparing youth for whatever life throws at them.
Our curriculum programs run on a 4-, 6-, 8-, or 12-week schedule. Each week, our session is driven by an objective - anything from trust to leadership, articulation to creative thinking, and more! Each session runs for 75-minutes and offers today's youth a unique experiential learning opportunity that develops life's most essential skills. These skills are easily brought back into school, home life, and into their bright futures! All of our experiential learning programs are designed to develop effective communication, creative problem solving, enhanced understanding of body language and personal boundaries, among others. This fun, interactive learning experience will offer unforgettable personal growth for your youth. Working with their horse teacher, youth must work together to obtain the objective or goal of the session. Due to the nature of the program, our youth programs are for ages 8-12. Our Curriculum Program runs with 1-4 participants.

Our Teachers Deliver Results!

Our teachers deliver irrefutable results:
1. Physical Wellbeing:

-
Physical Status: The youth feels better about themselves physical after engaging in Equine Assisted Learning, leading to participating in other physical activities - with an end result of improved physical health.
-
Safe Physical Touch: Participants learn the importance of physical touch with their horse. This leads to better understanding of safe or healthy touch (especially while grooming).
2. Mental Wellbeing: Includes improved;

-
Moods, feelings, and emotions,
-
Cognition, intellect, Perceptions and thoughts,
-
Judgement and identity through perceptions of self.
-
Out of the mouths of youth: “I thought that if I could do that [horse program], I could do anything.”
3. Social Wellbeing:

-
Focusing on interpersonal dynamics of the individual's relationships or associations with family, friends, the community, and the universe!
-
All programs are designed to enhance effective communication through better understanding of space, body language, and dialogue.
-
Increased awareness of self, of others, and of their own learning creates a positive change in behaviour - through the use of the horse's boundaries (which are very distinct and defined, which means feedback for crossing those boundaries is immediate and authentic).
Why Does it Work?

Working with horses is both interactive and stimulating - a recipe for important learning retention. Because horses are prey animals by nature, they understand how to differentiate between potentially threatening or aggressive behaviour and a calm, assertive approach. Working through our Curriculum Program allows youth to learn how to modify their behaviour, as necessary, through sets of exercises that will be retained and used for the rest of their lives. This unique teaching method cannot be taught in the classroom - it is the close-contact interaction with horses that has the strongest impact on young people - especially teenagers. Due to the nature of our program, participants must be 8+ years of age.

What is great about an interactive experiential learning program versus a traditional classroom setting? We all have different learning styles, however, we can all learn from our own experiences. Teams working together to build interpersonal relationships with each other and their horse - and ultimately to their own personal individual development. Each exercise is designed to encourage the overcoming of personal barriers in order to find change within themselves and to build relationships that are based off of mutual trust, respect, and integrity - all while having fun!

Equine-Assisted Learning is an important educational tool that helps to develop both empathy and kindness. EAL is also used to combat:
- Bullying
- Low self-esteem
- Behavioural disorders
- Emotional disorders/issues
- Poor communication skills
- Inability to work with others
- Drug abuse
NO riding and NO horse experience necessary. We work at eye level with our horse teacher - so on the ground work only. Closed-toed shoes required for safety purposes.
Armour of Skills
Each week, participants will focus on a different life skill by going through an obstacle curse with their team and horse teacher. Youth will be able to add a piece of "Skills Armour" to help them protect themselves while in social situations. By the end of the curriculum, youth will be equipped with a whole suit of "Skills Armour"!
